Rwanda Heros Cup Police lifts trophy
Rwanda National Police’s Handball club yesterday scooped the Heroes cup after winning APR Handball club with a 21-19 victory.
Police Handball Club met with their opponents at the finals played at Ecole Secondaire Kigoma in Ruhango District.
The team had earlier on, February 20, eliminated all its opponents to make it to the finals where it reigned as the victor.
Among the teams eliminated by Police Handball Club include University of Rwanda Handball team with a 36-16 wins, 30-13 against Kigali Institute of Education Handball Team and later made it to the semis playing IPRC Kicukiro where the team still maintain pace with 33-11 wins.
Police Handball Club coach, AIP Antoine Ntabanganyimana attributed his team’s victory to good preparations and a committed leadership that facilitates the team with all necessary resources.
“One of the contributing factors to our victory is discipline and commitment; we wanted to win and we had to win,” he said.
The national league that gets underway on March 5 will feature 12 clubs up from 10 league slots in previous seasons.
The new entrants include University of Rwanda, Nyarugege campus and Kibogora Polytechnic from Nyamasheke district.
In a related development, in football, Police FC drew with Amagaju 1-1 in a game that was played at Nyagisenyi pitch in Nyamagabe on February 21. Police FC currently occupies the fourth position in the league with 21 points.
