Confederations Cup: Good stats Police FC 3 -1 Athalabal
Danny Usengimana opened the scoring in the 10th minutes after prolific winger and skipper, Innocent Habyarimana eliminated Athalabal’s defence to set for the striker’s easy finish.
With several squandered chances and unentertaining follow up first half that gave the visitors chance to grab an equalizer in the 33rd minute, Police Coach Andre Cassa Mbungo made two substitutes at the start of the second half.
Rashid Kalisa came in for Mohamed Mushimiyimana while Jean Paul Niyonzima replaced Eric Ngendahimana.
This change also changed the football, exerted pressure on the visitors, which gave birth to a second goal in the 58th minute after Fabrice Twagizimana Ndikukazi headed in a well taken Habyarimana corner kick.
Lead scorer in the national league, Isaie Songa nailed it in the 72nd minute from Danny’s assist to go into the second leg with a 3-1 home advantage.
Coach Mbungo, shortly after the match, said: “I thank God that we won because as you know, God uses people to register such success.”
He added: “I realized that there was something lacking in the match, so I made the two substitutions in the second half which made huge impact, and I hope if we display this performance even in the second leg, we will go through to the next stage.”
