Kigali : AHF with partners launches Condom Kiosks for free access in four HIV high-risk areas
Thursday on 19 May 20, 2016; AIDS Healthcare Foundation Rwanda , in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Rwanda Biomedical Centre, launches for the first time in Rwanda in capital city of Kigali in the sector of Rwezamenyo the kiosks to distribute free condoms every day and every hour within 24 hours.

Dr Sabin Nsanzimana the head of HIV/Aids division at Rwanda Biomedical Centre said in Rwezamenyo sector around 8% are HIV positive a high rate all over the country. He said “this is one of the areas whereby sexuality is high. In one year, we give 20 million condoms and specifically in this area we plan to distribute 1 million condoms”.
Regarding selling these free condoms Dr Sabin Nsanzimana insured that “ these free condoms are unique with red colors, free AHF-branded Love and Icon Gold condoms and even law prohibit selling free condoms ”.
Due to poverty Solange Iradukunda; 16, is currently in prostitution; told yeejo.rw her thankfulness to the new initiate to access free condoms. She said “I used to buy four condoms around one dollar and even at night they are expensive one can buy one condom on a dollar but through this kiosk, we will be able to access them for free. It is amazing”.
Current statistics also show that among women and men who had two or more partners in the last 12 months, only 31% men and 48% women reported use of condom during sexual intercourse.”
All these kiosks condom will be operating every day in 24 hours and people can access them anytime in the most area where sexuality is dominant such as Migina; Matimba; Sodoma (Gasabo-Remera, Kicukiro-Magerwa, Nyarugenge- Nyamirambo and Kicukiro-Giporoso) etc. Etienne Hakizimana, AHF Rwanda Prevention Program Manager said “There will be volunteers at each point to provide people with HIV prevention and testing information.”
