Chinese artistes performed in Rwanda to celebrate new year
A group of acrobats, dancers and singers dubbed Charming Liaoning Troupe, a Chinese traditional performance group. The event that took place at the University of Rwanda’s College of Education in Kigali, was organized by the Chinese embassy in partnership with Rwanda’s Ministry of Sports and Culture.
As per to the New Times, the group is on a cultural performance tour in three African countries including Benin, Senegal and Rwanda. The artistes displayed performances in different arts, including music solos, puppet shows, acrobatic shows, and cultural dances. The well attended show also featured Rwandan performers who performed various cultural songs and dances.
Pan Hejun, the ambassador of China to Rwanda, said the event was meant to help strengthen ties between both countries through culture. “China and Rwanda already enjoy a good relationship,” he said. The Chinese New Year festival is a 15 day celebration in China that is characterized by massive celebrations. This is the third time the event is taking place in Rwanda. The maiden edition was in 2013.
