In press conference at Kigali yesterday, Mireille Karera, the event director at Global Women’s Summit, said that today’s summit seeks to strengthen women and families through education, empowerment, and entrepreneurship in order to eradicate illiteracy and poverty in every nation as the government always sensitize. “Rwanda has been the first in putting gender policies in practice. The 63 percentage of women representation in Parliament, and a big number of women in the Cabinet even big government positions, according to other gender records.
We hope that, these and few other women empowerment policies will be a great example for participants to learn from and make gender reality in their nations,” Karera said. The summit is under the theme, “Towards Vision 2020: Women Leading Innovative Transformation. Karera also said that they thought to bring the summit to Rwanda due to the fact that the country exerted much effort in women empowerment.
